The
Flange Separator is a safe and easy method for separating pipe flanges.
Unlike manual or hydraulic wedges which work on the flange mating surfaces,
the Flange Separator works on the flange bolt holes. This eliminates
the possibility of damage to the flange face or the chance of personal
injury from a wedge being forced out from the flange under high load.
The Flange
Separator is inserted into one of the bolt holes of a flange. The
bolt support plate is slipped between the flange faces underneath the Flange
Separator. As the head of the Flange Separator is screwed down with
a wrench the opposite end makes contact with the support plate and the locking
mechanism becomes wedged into the bolt hole. Continuous turning of
the Flange Separator then pulls the flanges apart to a position where a
gasket can be replaced.
When
complete, simply back the bolt head of the Flange Separator off until
the is no more force on the bolt support plate. To dislodge the
Flange Separator from the bolt hole simply tap it on the head with a hammer.
Two
Flange Separators can be used in conjunction with one another where increased
loads are required.
