Industrial users of large threaded fasteners have historically faced two problems: the need for bolts to be fastened tightly enough to prevent movement of parts to achieve a good seal against leaks, without over-stressing; and the removal of nuts after long periods of exposure to heat and/or atmospheric corrosion. Early attempts at solving these problems utilized long lever arms and heavy hammers on slugging wrenches, but these |

methods were only partially effective and frequently dangerous. Impact wrenches represented an improvement, but do not satisfy torque-control needs. In addition, they are extremely noisy and uncomfortable to use, causing worker fatigue and numbness of the hands and arms. Other tools such as large torque wrenches and multipliers, are effective, but lack speed and require significant physical effort. Mountz Eliminator & hand multipliers are commonly used in the petrochemical, power generation, shipping and maintenance industries. They enable operators to accurately tighten or loosen the toughest bolts with complete safety. Anti windup ratchets are available to reduce the amount of physical effort required to safely tighten a bolt.
Mountz ELIMINATOR torque multipliers
are
available in pneumatic and electric models. Torque multipliers are the ideal
solution for true torque control, speed, power, physical ease, silence and
safety. The ELIMINATOR of pneumatic torque wrenches has been developed to
meet these requirements. All models provide safe, economical and smooth
operation. They replace impact wrenches, pipe extensions and other inadequate
and sometimes unsafe fastening methods. The pneumatic radial models are
ideally suited for plate type heat exchange applications.
The ELIMINATOR pneumatic wrench consists of a powerful, eccentric
van, reversible air motor, driving three or more stages of epicyclic gearing.
Each gear stage reduces the output speed and proportionally increases
the torque. As the torque increases, it is necessary to fit progressively
heavier gearing to transmit the high forces generated, creating the familiar
stepped outline of the larger tools. The resulting output is smooth and
continuous with no damaging impacting.
Stalling- The tool is in a stalled condition when the nut ceases to rotate even though the air supply is connected and the motor control is in the "ON" position. In effect, the increasing resistance to turning by the bolt, transmitted through the gears, has balanced the force exerted by the compressed air against the motor vanes. Increase the air pressure and the nut will begin to turn until equilibrium is again achieved. LUBRO- CONTROL UNIT (LCU) (06-0005)- This unit is designed to provide a controlled supply of filtered, regulated, and lubricated compressed air to the tool. Nose Extensions are also available. Special reaction devices are available upon request. If you have any questions regarding high torque operation, please contact our Customer Service Department. |
