Q.
– Why choose the PosiTector Ultrasonic Thickness Gage over other
ultrasonic gages?
A.
– Compare the Features…
The PosiTector UTG has many features that are often only available
on competitors more expensive models including Scan Mode, HiLo
Alarm and Memory.
The PosiTector UTG has the same look and feel as the PosiTector
6000. Your existing customers will find this gage easy to use
right out of its sturdy carrying case.
The PosiTector UTG’s “Smart Couple” technology allows the probe
to maintain a coupled state while scanning large surfaces, reducing
operator frustration.
Certificate of Calibration included at no additional charge.

Q.
– Are there different models of PosiTector Ultrasonic Thickness
Gage to choose from?
A.
– No. There is only one. The PosiTector UTG comes with an
optimized 5MHz dual-element transducer designed for a wide range
of applications from steel and aluminum to plastics and glass.
However
there are three available accessories; Calibration step blocks,
PosiSoft software/cable accessory and an HP IR printer.
Q.
– Can the ultrasonic probe attach to my PosiTector 6000 coating
thickness gage?
A.
– No. Although the PosiTector Ultrasonic Thickness Gage
shares many of the same features as the PosiTector 6000 and
has a similar appearance, probes are not interchangeable. An
ultrasonic probe will not work on a PosiTector 6000, and a coating
thickness probe will not work on a PosiTector Ultrasonic Thickness
Gage.
Q.
– What is the thickness range of my PosiTector UTG?
A.
– The PosiTector UTG has a thickness range of 1.00 to 125.00
mm (0.040 to 5 inches) in carbon steel (depends on surface condition,
temperature and material). See specifications page for additional
information.
Q.
– What is the temperature range of my PosiTector UTG probe?
A.
– The PosiTector UTG probe can be used on a surface temperature
range of -40° to 300° F (-40° to 150° C) .
Q.
– Can the PosiTector UTG store or print data?
A.
– Yes. The PosiTector UTG has an internal memory of 250
readings which can be viewed on the LCD, printed to an IR wireless
printer (option) or downloaded to a P.C. using PosiSoft software
(option).
Q.
– How do I adjust the PosiTector Ultrasonic Thickness Gage for
my part’s shape and composition?
A.
– The PosiTector UTG can be adjusted in one of four ways
·
Known Material – select from a list of common pre-programmed
materials
·
Velocity – enter the known velocity of the material,
·
Known thickness – measure a known thickness of your material
·
Two point adjustment – for best accuracy, measure two known
thicknesses and the gage will calculate velocity and probe zero
offset
Q.
– Does the PosiTector Ultrasonic Thickness Gage eliminate coatings
while taking a thickness measurement?
A.
– No. This is not the instrument for that application. This
feature is available in much higher cost units.
Q.
– What are some typical applications?
A.
–
·
Measuring remaining wall thickness of a tank or pipe containing
corrosive liquids
·
Quality control of manufactured items
·
Plant Maintenance to confirm vessel wall thickness
·
Testing for salt corrosion on bridges and hulls of ships
·
Measuring petrochemical pipes and tanks in accordance with state
and federal laws
·
Wall thickness of concrete transfer and handling apparatus subject
to erosion including ready mixed concrete rotating drum mixers
Easy to choose because there is only one model.
